about

Here’s a political song about the concepts of gay marriage and civil unions. It’s my opinion that the civil union proposals are insulting. Sure, it’s a legal recognition of same-sex relationships, but it’s simply not the same as marriage. It’s essentially saying that “Separate but equal” will suit the gay community, but just like the Jim Crow laws that proposed the same thing for blacks, it’s not equal at all. And the thing that bothers me most is that the “liberal” politicians are all too afraid to push for real equality, actual legal marriage for any two consenting adults. Well, they’re either too scared or they just don’t care because there isn’t enough homosexual constituents to actually make a difference in their campaigns. This is another song written first on guitar. If this was faster and punk, it would sound like NOFX.

lyrics

Different people, different laws
I think we tried that once
Do you remember Jim Crow?
Wasn’t all that long ago
Different names for different folks
Punishment for different strokes
We’re one way so we get this
You’re like that so you get shit
We owe you nothing so be thankful for it

Deserve rights just like the rest
So why settle for less?
Separation, never fair
No matter how they compare
Sanctity don’t mean a thing
It’s just a fucking ring
It’s the priveledges that count
Would you say with your own mouth
We stay in and everyone else will stay out

It doesn’t seem legal, this treatment of people
The “liberal” side is saying separate but equal
But you know there’s certain rights
That still won’t be applied
But we’re only 3 to 5 percent of voters
So why try?
