about

This song was written years ago, and this recording is several months older than the rest of the album. The lyrics don’t appear to match up with the others, either. What gives? Well, this song DOES relate to the rest of the album. I’ve always liked this song because, from my perspective, it’s a very specific and accurate song, but to everybody else it’s quite vague. I don’t want to tell anyone the entire story behind this because I’ve heard so many fascinating interpretations of it and I don’t want to ruin it’s significance to other people. I also included this because it has never been on a real Babylon Party Machine release (it was included as like a b-side on my Wixipedia compilation) and I think it deserves one. The lyrical and musical quality are consistent with the album, it fits secrectly into the theme… it’s in.

lyrics

Do you wanna hear a funny joke
It’s clinical depression
Look at me the fucking freak
Don’t belong in society
Along with you cuz your so cool
With that same punchline every hour?
Would be nice if you and I
We were alike I’m just a coward
My excuse is abuses
Not the kind with cuts and bruises
But the kind where my mind
Is just delusions and confusions
So come up with something new this
Fucking diatribe is useless
Have to write a song about you
But I didn’t want to do this

And the way I used to feel
Is not enough to keep me hopeful
Optimism was abandoned
Self-destruction took its place
All the thoughts I used to think
About the battles I could win
That was naive

Keep on pressing buttons
Till you find the one controlling
My emotional headquarters
See which one will get me going
See which one will get me angry
See which one touches a nerve
See which one gets you the retaliation
You know you deserve
Because I’ll swing on you, so help me God
I promise to displace
The every molar and bicuspid
Sitting in your pretty face
You know a drum can only take
So many beats before it breaks
You might inherit someone else’s trash
And make the last mistakes

And the way I used to feel
Is not enough to keep me hopeful
Optimism was abandoned
Self-destruction took its place
All the thoughts I used to think
About the battles I could win
That was naive

Nothing seems worth it
Everyone’s so perfect
Wouldn’t it be nice if I was perfect just like you?
I’d laugh at others’ problems
Give them lots of shit about them
Oh yeah wouldn’t it be nice if I was perfect just like you?
Because perfection is the goal
Perfection by the social standards
Everyone who doesn’t think like me’s
A lousy fucking bastard
If you don’t quite fit into the mold
Conform a little faster
If you could…

And the way I used to feel
Is not enough to keep me hopeful
Optimism was abandoned
Self-destruction took its place
All the thoughts I used to think
About the battles I could win
That was naive

And the way I used to feel
Is not enough to keep me hopeful
Optimism was abandoned
Self-destruction took its place
All the thoughts I used to think
About the battles I could win
That was naive
