about

This is a song I actually wrote on guitar, something I don’t do much for BPM songs. I wanted to write a song that was a little less intense musically, and I wanted to reflect my newfound appreciation for Atom and His Package. I start the song as a nice poppy synth rock song, and it turns into dancy electro-ska. The lyrics to this song are most closely tied to the release date, as it’s about coming to terms with identity and letting people know you. The last verse refers to all of the other songs I’ve written that have either hinted or actually outright mentioned my sexuality (there’s actually a lot, you know) and how most people seemed not to pick up on that at all. I originally wrote “black sheep eldest boy” in the song, but changed it to “pink sheep”.

lyrics

If hours were dollars and minutes were cents
Just try to imagine the fortune I spent
Attempting to convince myself
That I was just like everybody else
Part paranoia, part self defense
Part total lack of self confidence
I didn’t want it - passing phase?
I didn’t need it, but it’s here to stay

You gotta deal eventually
You gotta deal eventually

Never a grandkid or daughter-in-law
Is this the future my parents saw?
I’m sorry if I disappoint
Your unfulfilling pink sheep eldest boy

You gotta deal eventually
You gotta deal eventually

I’m sick of hiding from the world
I’m sick of biting my tongue

So many people just didn’t know
So many people probably won’t
I’m turning back the subtlety
The other approach did nothing for me

You gotta deal eventually
You gotta deal eventually

I’m sick of hiding from the world
I’m sick of biting my tongue

You gotta deal eventually
