about

This song is similar to “The Approach” in spirit and recording technique. It’s about having “gay” and “ska” together at the same time, instead of identifying as one or the other. You know, there’s a lot of gay, lesbian, and bi musicians in the world. There’s even gay punk and hardcore bands. I’ve searched and searched for gay-themed ska bands, though, and came up with nothing. I decided I had to do it myself if I wanted to hear it. This was another motivation for the album. The vocals on this song and “The Approach” were all recorded at one pitch (me singing the same note for every word). I then went in and digitally changed the pitch of every note, which is why the vocals sound so robotic and weird. It’s a technique that I think fits well with the BPM sound, but it’s a lot of work and can’t be used a whole lot. I think it makes this song sound especially techno, though, which is cool.

lyrics

You got it now, you got it now
You got this party for yourself
You don’t fit in? You don’t have fun?
Looks like you’re done with either one
Tell all the boys, tell all the girls
You got the best of both worlds
No path to pick, no choice to choose
You have your cake and eat it too

You can be who you are
Every part of who you are
In a club, in a bar
Just be proud of who you are
What you like, what you feel
What you buy and what you steal
Turn the wheel, turn the wheel
Turn it till the dream is real
Turn it up, turn it down
Look who’s standing all around
Letting them hear the sound
Does it even matter now?
Need a God? Maybe not
Maybe this is all you got
Maybe it means a lot
Then again, maybe not
